Open Road 03:31
Open Road It begins with a simple story Played in a different key In the shadow of those before me As it was meant to be It was a time when there was nothing I had to lose Taking a leap of faith knowing I'd pay some dues Free as a soul could be in the custody of his muse At the mercy of the lord on the open road In the hands of a dream uncertain Wondering where it goes Hanging on with your pockets hurting And what do you have to show Nobody said it's easy rowing against the tide Keeping the fire burning and hoping that you'll get by Telling it like it is cause somebody has to try At the mercy of the lord on the open road Looking back on a life of plenty Singing a different song In the hands of the dream they sent me Trying to play along It was a perfect plan till living got in the way Maybe I just got lost or said all I had to say They say that you can't go back but still I remain today At the mercy of the lord on the open road

Waves 03:37
Waves It's a chance you have to take It's the early sound of morning It's what you think but do not say It's nothing you can keep It's the choices that you make When your heart is filled with longing It’s where you look along the way For the faith before you leap It's the ebb and flow Of the air you breathe There’s nothing that you need to know But it’s there if you want to believe It’s the voice you hear When you’re falling free Through notes and words that disappear Like waves rising out of the sea It’s the moments that you seize And the ones you’d like to redo It’s the jangle when you stir your drink A knock upon your door It’s the evidence you need For the verdict that you’ve come to It’s what everyone you fear will think When you land upon the shore It’s the bags you’ve packed And the price you’ve paid It’s every thought that holds you back When nothing else stands in your way It’s the grace you’ll know When you let it be Just by reaching up and by letting go Like waves rising out of the sea

Holy Land 03:33
Holy Land Flying high and out of sight As if to disappear from everything he should have gotten right Trying to forget what he could not see Out of time and losing form Resurrected by the danger of an unexpected storm As though it came along to set him free The sky was gleaming with illusion and recall Climbing fences as the rain began to fall Upon a perfect day As he made his way to the holy land Living in a house of cards Where tomorrow never comes around to tell you who you are And promises are cooked an open fire No one tells you what to do But it really doesn't take a lot to see why you withdrew To linger in the flames of your own desire He should have known that she was only passing by That the promise and surrender in her eyes Was never meant for him As the lights grew dim on the holy land Souls are lost and fools are made In the belly of a sinking ship they call the masquerade You get what you deserve, but never what you need So I leave you with confusion and regret That's what happens every time that you forget Which way the river flows When you're trying to go to the holy land

The Love of Thee Who will be the light in the morning Who will know just what to say Who will fill your heart with belonging And who will chase the blues away Who will bake the bread in the kitchen Who will drive and park the car Who will scratch your back when it's itching And who will wonder where you are What if I had looked away Would I even know your name Or if it were another day Would I be here just the same Could it be a twist of fate Who am I to know So I raise a mighty sail Cause you never know which way the wind will blow Or who will give tomorrow a reason Who will travel land or sea Who will find someone to believe in And who will be the love of thee Who will be the one you inspire Who will dance and who will sing Who will hold your hand by the fire And who will wear your wedding ring Or are we only passing by To another time and place Maybe I should wonder why And stay here just in case Could it be a twist of fate Who am I to know So I raise a mighty sail Cause you never know which way the wind will blow Or who will give tomorrow a reason Who will travel land or sea Who will find someone to believe in And who will be the love of thee

The Time We Have I don’t know how to love you Or if I believe you’re even there For me to recover And how will I ever find you Hiding behind the shame and fear Disguised as another Child of the night, living inside of me Using my eyes to look past your pain Taking my will and leaving what’s left of me Like a fallen angel walking in the rain And you wander through an endless maze of emptiness and sorrow Believing that you know the way to get on out of here But you always steal another day and sell it to tomorrow With a promise that you can’t avow ‘Cause the here and now is all the time we have Everyone has a story Maybe it’s time I let mine go To breathe in a new one Hauling this inventory Is breaking my back and killing my soul My darling, what’s done is done Child of the night you hold my destiny Tomorrow’s a guess and yesterday’s gone Give me you hand and walk along next to me There’s no better time than now for moving on And we’ll wander through this endless maze of emptiness and sorrow Believing that we’ll find a way to get on out of here And with love we’ll find a way to stay, each day before tomorrow With a promise that we will avow ‘Cause the here and now is all the time we have

You’re Not In This Alone Wading through another endless day Looking for a place to hide away Drifting when the wind begins to blow Take a look around, you’ll see you’re not alone Every glaring move that you conceal Never really knowing how you feel Landing where you never thought you’d go Acting out like someone you don’t know Ain’t it good to know you’re not in this alone Time can heal and your heart will sing Over and over we turn it over There’s no telling what love can bring That’s just the way that we roll Drifting when the wind begins to blow Landing where you never thought you go Let the light of truth abound you Take a breath and look around you Can’t you see you’re not in this alone

I Told You So I'm not here to say goodbye To take the fifth or testify Bring you down or get you high but this I’ll say All I really want to do Is make it right with all of you I’m stepping out of the darkness into the light of day Rising up, falling down, or with your feet on the ground Those who love you always let it show Others leave and never let you know And some just throw you away saying I told you so I went to the mountainside To face the truth that I denied Reaching out or so I tried to make amends There I watched as bridges burned And nothing that I’d ever learned Could rescue me from the loneliness of what could have been Rising up, falling down, or with your feet on the ground Those who love you always let it show Others leave and never let you know And some just throw you away saying I told you so

The Streets of Astoria Stuck inside the pages of an old forgotten book I came upon a faded photograph that someone took Just a bunch of guys I used to know Looking at me silently now from so long ago Standing at the precipice of what would come to be Staring down a barrel that we couldn’t even see It’s fair to say we didn’t have a clue We thought that we’d arrived But we were only passing through Blessed are the memories that have lead me here today The joy and tribulations that we shared along the way Laughing as we learned to play the blues Shouting out like messengers with everything to lose The city was on fire and a war was raging on That one day would be ours to end or fight before too long Still we thought we’d make it big one day ‘Cause no one could out-duel us when our band began to play But our music would always belong To the streets of Astoria Where we still had a reason to dream And a story to tell Like a blaze in the eye of a storm On the streets of Astoria Till the flame that we thought was our destiny flickered away …

Technology 02:12
Technology Turn it on and disconnect ‘Cause that’s the way it is and how it’s gonna be And just what did you expect When it just eats your soul and fill your mind with fantasy Take a look around and see The chains that tether you to your technology Rising from the rubble of your secrets To the life you always tried to flee Ain’t it true you get in trouble ‘Clinging to the very things you thought would set you free When you come around you’ll see What’s broken and won’t let you be The emptiness of your disease You’re never gonna fix it with technology

Common Good 04:10
Common Good Everybody's talking while the walls are coming down Blaming one another and there's enough to go around But who you gonna listen to and who do you forsake When you put your faith in a point of view where everything is fake Maybe you’ve been thinking that you’ve seen this all before They denigrate truth till you can’t see it anymore Double down fear and tell you just how safe you’ll be While a mighty fist starts coming down on the bounty of the free The temperature is rising and the money's pouring in The cynical applaud like there’s some righteousness to sin When you gonna do the things that the good lord says you should That will bring us all together living for the common good Some of you are saying that you can’t get what you need But still you go and stand behind the champions of greed They tell you that the little guy is the one who done you wrong You may know where this is going, but they ain’t taking you along The temperature is rising and the money's pouring in The cynical applaud like there's some righteousness to sin When you gonna go do the things that the good lord says you should That will bring us all together living for the common good

Shadows 03:13
Shadows Every time I turn around And see a shadow on the ground I think of all the stories I've been told Of distant voices in the night And people walking through the light When nothing else remains for us to hold You might say I'm seeing things to try to ease the pain But tell me why should I believe it isn't so When standing here beside me, even in the falling rain Is the shadow of a man I used to know On that very quiet day When suddenly you went away And said goodbye to all that you outgrew When everything is said and done And God delivers everyone Nothing else remains for us to do Call me a believer with the the burden to explain But tell me why should I believe it isn't so When standing here beside me, even in the falling rain Is the shadow of a man I used to know
